  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk (or homemade version)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar (optional for a touch of sweetness)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for richness)
  • 1 cup raisins or currants (optional, for a sweet touch)
